Camping at Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

After a few days in Krabi, it was time to head away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and head for a national park again. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park is about 40 minutes from Krabi and is a great place for a nature retreat.

Arriving at the national park , after paying the national park and camping fees, we were shown around the campsite. We were the only ones there and had the campsite to ourselves. The Campsite 🏕 is inside a National Park that’s 50 km sq. It’s surrounded by a large rainforest, and with us having no mobile phone signal,  it was the perfect place to enjoy being out in nature.

We’d stocked up on shopping and camping gas before arriving, and the site had a fridge, which was ideal. The campsite was filled with the sounds of various birds, and there were also lots of lizards 🦎 of various sizes roaming around at times.

After getting settled in, the first night was a memorable one (not for the right reasons though), we managed to have attracted some ants 🐜 into the tent, and when I say some, I mean loads. After getting up numerous times, at silly o’clock to clear them out, by the next morning there were too many, so we had to empty the tent. We spent all morning emptying the tent, cleaning every item as it was taken out. After about 3 hours we were done, the tent had been moved and looked to be ant free, we assumed the reason for the ants was down to us disturbing an ants colonie with the tent pegs,  so this time it wasn’t pegged down. After 3 hours of hard work in the heat, and leaving lots of people coming to the national park on day trips puzzled, (as all our stuff was scattered around the campsite and we shuck each item down), we were done. 😌

The 2nd night in the tent was ant free, but we ended up experiencing some bad weather in the form of strong gusts of wind 💨. Which meant the tent would catch the wind and rustle, shake, and try to fly off but was ankered down by our weight. Even though the tent was secure, the noise meant another night of disrupted sleep 🤷🏻‍♂️

All this may seem stressful and unpleasant, but it’s all part of the adventure, the ups and down, the challenges along the Journey. 🤷🏻‍♂️🎒
